Essay Topics on Comparing the Romantic Era to Sappho

Essay Topics on Comparing the Romantic Era to SapphoIf you are looking for essay topics on comparing the romantic era to Sappho then this page will be very useful for you. In this essay I will show you why the preeminence of the Sappho in Greek literature is important and how the level of understanding in the Romantic era made the effect more authentic. The Romantic era can be considered the birth of the novel form. It is often said that Greek literature had no novels and that only prose poems were used. However, the situation of Greek literature would have been very different if one took into account the epic poets who excelled in both prose and poetry. This would have meant that some form of a novel form was required. What would the result have been if this wasn't the case? We might not have seen any novel form and maybe never would have experienced the concept of character development, which would have been necessary in order to create the first truly great modern novel.I will begin by looking at some facts about Sappho and compare her to Aristotle, Plato and other major Greek philosophers who influenced her. Many of the historical parallels between Sappho and these great Greek philosophers should be taken into account. I will also look at the level of knowledge of the two women. When you consider the position of women in the ancient times, it is highly likely that there would have been no role for a female philosopher. However, they might have sought out male acquaintances and perhaps might have used them as a platform to express themselves.Sappho's connection with Aristotle is quite interesting. Her poem 'Euphorion' was inspired by the writings of Aristotle, who had died around 350 BC.In fact it may be argued that this poem was influenced by Plato who was also famous in Athens at the time.In short, it seems that what we call the romantic period was actually a much greater literary movement. Not only did we see the emergence of Sappho, but we also saw the arri val of other prominent authors such as Plato and Aristotle. It is fair to say that without these giants, the Romantic period would not have been as strong as it is now. So, if you would like to write an essay on comparing the romantic era to Sappho then this is the place to start.
